FAQ
Mortgage questions
What does the monthly payment include?
Principal and interest on the loan, plus estimated property tax, home insurance and any HOA dues. Private mortgage insurance (PMI) may also apply if you put less than 20% down.
Which interest rate should I use?
Use the rate from your lender pre-approval. The default here is only an example — rates change daily and depend on your credit, loan type and down payment.
How much should I put down?
Many buyers put 3% to 20% down. Putting 20% down usually avoids PMI and lowers the monthly payment, but keeping cash for closing costs and reserves matters too.
Are Texas property taxes high?
Texas has no state income tax, so local property tax rates tend to be higher than in many states. Rates vary by county, city and school district — check the exact rate for the address.
